This all began a few years ago when I wanted to swap an automatic transmission into my Jeep truck, but wanted manual control of the transmission rather than a factory computer controlling the shifting. Eventually I adapted this to be able to select auto or manual shifting for Jeeps with a computer controlled transmission. However the most recent developments are where it really gets exciting; controllers are now available for many more vehicles with many, many more on the horizon and the new model features up/down shift inputs which makes it very easily adaptable to a variety of pushbuttons, joysticks, and even paddleshifters.

 

Gear selection of the 4 gears is done through 2 momentary inputs, one for upshift and one for downshift. 4 LED lights indicate what gear you are currently in. An on/off input allows you to select this manual shifting at any time or leave it off and let your vehicle shift using the factory computer controller. Another on/off input allows you to lock the torque convertor at any time, improving the efficiency of the transmission and allowing it to run cooler.

Like my prior models, this unit is very easy to install, and the hardest part will be deciding where you want to mount your buttons and/or switches. The heart of the unit is the control box which can be used with a wide variety of switches, joysticks, paddleshifters, buttons, and LEDs.
